Easy cover for DS Lite

Ruadhri got a DS Lite for Christmas, together with a flashing case for it. However, because he normally leaves it charging up when not playing with it, and also often has the Pokemon game from his old Gameboy Advance sticking out of the socket at the back, the case is no good. So I knitted up a cover for it, as it was starting to get dusty. It's simplicity itself - a long strip of stocking stitch with a slightly narrower flap. I left a gap when sewing it up in Bernat's glow-in-the-dark wool so that the DS can be charged up while in the case.

Cuffed

I've made myself a handy cuff for holding syringes. It's always a bit tricky giving the llamas vaccinations. I usually keep the pre-loaded syringe in my pocket until it's time to quickly whip the lid off and give the unsuspecting animal a jab. That can be difficult. So I adapted a pattern in Yarn Bombing and made an arm cuff. I made it a bit longer and thinner than the original. I think it will be very useful.

Yarn Bombing

Santa brought me a copy of Yarn Bombing by Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain this year. Good old Santa - I'd been wanting that book since it was published in the autumn. And I'm not disappointed. It's a great book with fun articles and some lovely patterns. I've already knitted the monster feet.

Yarn bombing is another name for knitted or yarn graffiti, a new form of street art and very civilised subversion! I intend to brighten up our 75 acres with knitted and crocheted bits and pieces. I love making smaller things that I can finish in a few hours or evenings. I don't seem to have the staying power any more to make jumpers and scarves. Plus the kids prefer unhomemade sweaters these days!
I made Caitlin a rather sweet neckwarmer for Christmas, using a free pattern from tangleonline.com. And she's actually wearing it - no greater praise for mum! I've nearly finished some matching mittens, though I don't think they'll get much wear. Caiti got a beautiful pair of Bolivian alpaca wool gloves for Christmas - a bit classier than my efforts.

I'm back

No, I've decided I'm going to be the Knitting Llama after all. Never mind the similarity to another name! 2010 will see plenty of action on this site. Keep coming back!

Another knitting llama

Oh dear, not a good start. I've just discovered that there's another Knitting Llama (without the 'the') who has a blog. I hope we can co-exist peacefully like my llamas do, most of the time anyway! And there I was thinking that I'd thought of a very witty, original name for my blog.

The Knitting Llama has arrived

Happy New Year! And Happy New Blog to me. I've wanted to create my own knitting blog for a long time and have finally plucked up the nerve. I'm in the early stages of designing it so bear with me for a few days as I find my way around.
